Wayne and I were planning on going somewhere for Labor Day weekend, but we waited until the last minute and we’re unable to get a hotel at the places we wanted to stay. So I decided that I’m going to have a Staycation over Labor day weekend instead. For those of you who don’t know what that is…it is a vacation where you stay at home and relax. But in order to have a relaxing vacation at home, there needs to be some preparation and some rules. I really don’t want it to turn into a four day weekend where I end up doing laundry or cleaning…so all of those things need to be done before I start. I’m also thinking no TV. Maybe a couple of movies, but that’s about it.
I’ve read a couple of great articles about preparing for a Staycation and what needs to be done beforehand. I am going to take the next five days and do just that so that my Staycation is actually a vacation. If I were going somewhere on vacation, I would take the same amount of time to prepare for it anyway. And I plan to spend some of that money we would’ve spent on a hotel on the room instead.
I’m planning on staying in our guest room downstairs. It’s quiet, and probably nicer than the bedroom we use, and it has a beach theme. During the weekend, I plan on reading magazines, a book, drinking my favorite fall teas (and some good cookies), maybe making some pina coladas, going to to dinner or breakfast once or twice, spending time with friends, and some spa like features such as a sauna, facial, pedicure, nails, etc. I might even spend some time outside and get some sun.
Over the next few days, I’m planning on going to Home Goods to get new bedding and a rug to ensure plenty of comfort. I bought a new bean bag chair on Amazon that will be perfect for reading my book. I have a book from the library that was Good Reads best fiction book last year. I plan to clean the house and the guest room before my vacation begins, and getting all of my regular chores done so I’m not thinking about them over the weekend.
The emphasis here is relaxation. I’m looking forward to it. In case you are interested, here are some articles about preparing for your own Staycation.
